Cayos Cochinos [Back]

The true jewels of the Northwest Caribbean, Cayos Cochinos are a Marine Biological Reserve located approximately 23 miles from the south shore of Roatan. Encompassing 2 small islands and 13 cayes, a delicate balance of Garifuna fishing villages and eco-tourism exist within the park. Our mooring sits directly in the midst of the anchorage off of Cochino Grande, a pristine island environment surrounded by crystal clear waters and white sand beaches.
Cayos Cochinos is only accessible by boat making it a true diver’s delight. Biologists believe that Cayos Cochinos is the breeding ground for many species of fish found in the Northwest Caribbean. Purple tunicates, juvenile trunkfish and frogfish abound. An airplane wreck excites the treasure hunter in all of us. Underwater caves and massive coral formations are a spectacular sight. Diving Cayos (the local term for the islands) is a dream come true.
Sailors from all over the world come here to experience something rarely found in the Caribbean, a feeling of the South Pacific. The Cayos are densely forested providing a green backdrop against the azul sea. There are no roads or cars upon the island, only footpaths. A footpath leads along the entire “spine” of the island. Trails branch out to a tiny Garifuna fishing village called “East End”. An aerobic hike to the top of the island leads to the lighthouse. A rewarding 360 degree view is offered for those who venture to the top. On clear days it is possible to see all of the Bay Islands and the mainland to Trujillo. The vista of the reefs, Cayos and of the “Graziafelice” in the anchorage is not to be missed!

Barbareta [Back]

Barbareta, an island paradise just east of Roatan is another destination that has yet to be discovered, once again because it is only accessible via boat. Snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking and hiking are the main attractions here.

Utila [Back]

Utila lies due west from Roatan. Almost every afternoon the trade winds are blowing and Utila is a lovely downwind sail. Smaller than Roatan, Utila has a style all her own. The main form of transportation on the island is still the bicycle, although nowadays there are more and more ATV’s and trucks. Renting an ATV or a bicycle makes a wonderful day excursion. Islanders walk down the main street barefooted and greet one another with smiles. The Southwest Cayes of Utila are what islands from glossy magazine advertisements are made. White sand beaches, turquoise waters and a cool breeze. Day trips can be arranged with snorkeling, kayaking and lunch. Hang a hammock, sip a cool drink and watch the waves roll in upon the reef.

Roatan [Back]

Roatan, the largest of the Bay Islands offers endless options as well. The home port of the “Graziafelice” is Roatan and therefore island hospitality is in great abundance. Whatever you desire can be found here, whether diving, snorkeling, kayaking, hiking, beachcombing and/or sailing.
